You can make this fun and whimsical heart shaped doll for your little girl for Valentine's Day. This heart shaped doll works like a Mr. Potato head, with interchangeable features, so get creative and have some fun with this easy heart doll craft project!

To Make a Heart Doll That Works Like Mr. Potato Head You Will Need:

Old Sweater

Cotton Filling

Buttons

Fabric

Velcro (rough side)

Sewing Machine

Thread

Scissors

Wired Ribbon

Pipe Cleaners

To get started you need to cut out 2 hearts from your old sweater or even some new fleece material. They need to be identical in every way. One heart will be the front of the doll the other will be the back.

Now, cut out four length of the wired ribbon out. 2 will be arms and 2 will be legs. Cut the ends of the ribbon at a 45 degree angle.

Tip: Look for heavy wired ribbon that can really hold its shape well. Floral ribbon or gross grain ribbon with wire does this well.

Now, Lay the first heart out pattern side up. Place the arms where you would like them. Place the legs inside on the bottom as well.

Now, reverse them so they are running into the middle of the heart. Leave the end hanging out to hold them in place when you sew.

Now, top off with the second heart pattern side down. Sew the outside of the heart together, catching the arms and legs of the doll as you go. Leave a 2 inch opening on the side of the heart, between the arm and leg on one side.

Turn the heart doll inside out. Fill the inside with the cotton batting until very full.

Turn the rough ends of the opening in and sew this shut.

Now, on to decorating. Because your heart doll is fuzzy, the rough side of Velcro will stick to it easily. So, use more fabric and buttons sewn to the rough side of the Velcro to create the Mr. Potato head like features f the heart doll.

You can sew buttons in a variety of colors to the back of the Velcro. Use a thread that matches the Velcro so it blends in and looks more professional.

Cut out lips from felt and use fabric glue to adhere them to the back of the Velcro. You can even use moor old sweaters, just be sure to apply some no fray to the edges or stitch them to prevent unraveling.
