Thailand has always had a strong history of art, and Bangkok has a truly fabulous art scene. There are also hundreds of emerging Thai artists who create amazing work. In Bangkok, you can see art ranging from traditional Thai paintings to modern art, from trendy to experimental multi-disciplinary art, from Thai to Japanese to Chinese to Korean to Western to.....and it goes on. Photography has also become very popular, and galleries dedicated to photography art are popping up everywhere. Bangkok is an exciting city anyway and the art scene here has exploded in the last few years making it even more so. With tiny stand alone galleries, galleries in coffee shops, huge warehouse spaces, traditional art centres and more, there's something here for every art lover.

Chulalongkorn Art Centre

Affiliated with one of the top universities in Thailand, this big open gallery space is on the top floor of the university's resource center. You'll see cutting-edge individual artists exhibited here, as well as group shows. Artists from all over Thailand and internationally have exhibited at Chula's Art Centre in the past. They've just re-opened after a year of renovation and it looks better than ever. It's also near to Siam Square downtown on Phayathai Road, so incredibly easy to get to. Opening hours are Monday thru Friday from 9am to 7pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. They're closed on Sundays and public holidays. Tel. 0-2218-2911

Gallery F-Stop

Located in the Tamarind Café, one of Bangkok's most popular vegetarian cafes, Gallery F-Stop has a monthly rotating photography exhibition. F-Stop was the first place in Bangkok to devote itself only to photographic art and its success shows. Past popular exhibits have included photographs from Bangkok's largest slum. Sincerely worth checking out as, not only is the gallery fabulous, but the vegetarian food at Tamarind Cafe is amazing. You can combine a great gallery experience with a delicious lunch. At Sukhumvit Soi 20, near the Asok sky train station. 02-663-7421.
