Here are the Snubs and Nods That Stunned the 80th Academy Awards Nominations Announcement. This is the immortal day that Hollywood drinks its dose of hemlock and lets the anonymous voting serve its purpose. While for many years the Oscar ceremony has been derided as a popularity contest, the Academy Awards remains the most prestigious movie awards in the world.
