80th Annual Academy Awards

Beverly Hills, CA, January 22, 2008 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the Oscar nominations for the 80th Academy Awards today, Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 5:30am. Leading the Oscar nominations pack are No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Atonement is in third place for the most Oscar nominations this year. Some of these Oscar nominees will receive Academy Awards for the best film making achievements of 2007 at the 80th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 24 2008.

The Academy Award Ceremony will be held at the Kodak Theatre and will be televised live on ABC at 5pm Pacific Time. Jon Stewart will be hosting the 80th Annual Academy Awards ceremony. It will be his second time hosting the Academy Awards.

Scientific and Technical Academy Awards

On January 4, 2008, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the winners of the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards. The Scientific and Technical Academy Awards will be presented in a separate awards ceremony on Saturday, February 9, 2008.

2008 Oscar Nominations

The nominees are in line with other recent film and critic award nomination and winners for the best film making of 2007.

Best Picture Oscar Nominations

Atonement- No surprise here. Atonement has been a critical favorite since it first hit the big screen.
Juno* This was the big surprise, although it is a real crowd-pleaser. Consider it a nod from the Academy for a job well done. Ironically, teen pregnancy is more acceptable on film than in real Hollywood circles.
Michael Clayton - This long-shot rightfully grabbed a nomination.
No Country for Old Men - This is the movie favored to win.
There Will Be Blood - Another serious pick by the Academy.
