Negotiate is something that most people don't like to do. This usually causes allot of stress for people when they have to go purchase a new vehicle. But if you know how to negotiate you can save yourself money on many of the items that you purchase. You can ask for discounts at many stores that you never would think about, and may be surprised that you may get a discount.

Most stores now will meet or beat their competitor prices, if you have an ad from another store that has the item on sale, you could get that item at the sale price from the other store. Usually you have to speak to the manager but if it saves you money it will be worth it. Even if the store doesn't have that policy it still could be profitable for you to ask. Even if you don't have the sales ad, but recall seeing it, you can still approach the manager of the store and ask if you can get a better price.

Inspecting the item before you purchase it finding any small flaw will give you leverage to negotiate a better price. Sometimes you don't even have to find a flaw, explain to the manager how much you enjoy shopping at the store and if you could get it for that price you would take it that day. Most managers at stores can make the decision to lower the price to make that sell. Big ticket items can usually be bought for less than retail price and without a sale. Any store should be on your list that you should negotiate a better deal.

To be successful negotiating a better deal, always find the top manager on duty at that time. Retail clerks and sales people usually can't make this decision. Once you find the manager explain that you would love to buy from the store, but would like to get a better deal. Give him a low ball figure, one that is still reasonable but is still less than what the price is. A good rule is about 15% less than the listed price. They will usually counter offer with a 10% off the price. If he says that he is unable to do it, ask if you can contact the main office and see about getting the price. If you are unable to work with the manager, do contact the main office. They may be willing to sell it to you at your price for customer satisfaction.
