Director of "Day Zero" Starring Elijah Wood Comes to NYFA

New York Film Academy has always produced some of the most impressive writers, directors, and filmmakers of our modern time. Rob Malkani; writer and director of the film "Day Zero" which stars Chris Klein, Jon Bernthal, and Elijah Wood will be coming to speak to the students of the NYFA and to do a question and answer session about his successes and failures and about the intense challenges of writing and making a new film.

The question and answer session will happen at the NYFA SoHo Campus (555 Broadway at Prince St; 2nd Floor) on Tuesday January 22, 2008 at 7PM.

According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0768183/) the plot of "Day Zero" has to do with three friends who are all drafted into the military. A military state has returned to the United States and three friends are forced to report for duty. Getting right to the nitty gritty of "anguish" and "soul searching" of whether or not to "accept the luck of the draw" this is a future that is all too real in some of our minds. The occupation in the Middle East continues to broil over, enlistment is down, and enlisted soldiers are kept longer than their tour of duty stipulates. So the natural progression would be to take the people at random who do not wish to be a part of the conflict. Taken from the perspective of the draftee, this is an interesting sounding movie with a great cast and potentially devastating consequences.

Imagine being a draft dodger in this technological age; your identity never goes away. Even if you escaped as an ex-pat and roved the world for years, that would have to be your whole life! I can't think of too many people who would be prepared to go from the safety, comfort, and insularity that being an American citizen has to being a world nomad and never knowing what could be coming your way next.
