The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the 2008 Oscar nominations. The Oscars (officially known as the First Award for Merit) will be awarded in 24 categories.
Joel Cohen and Ethan Cohen tied a record for most personal Oscar nominations garnered from a single film with their four nods for No Country for Old Men. They were nominated for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture (as producers). They were also nominated for Best Film Editing under their pseudonym. Hal Holbrook, at 83 years old, became the oldest male performer to be nominated for an Oscar.
