On ESPN's NBA Fastbreak they counted down the top 10 teams in NBA history. Of course, these teams were chosen by the fans, which was a big mistake. According to the NBA fans around the world the greatest NBA team of all-time is the '95-'96 Chicago Bulls.

I realize that the '95-'96 Chicago Bulls team reached the great feat of most wins in one season by going 72 - 10. Clearly that's a great accomplishment but the '95-'96 Chicago Bulls team isn't even the best Bulls team in history.

Michael Jordan's first stint with the Chicago Bulls was a much better team. Toni Kukoc got more attention but the better third scorer behind Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen was Horace Grant from the '91-'92 team. Grant scored more points, got more rebounds and was the better defender.

Another Chicago Bull that didn't get much attention was B. J. Armstrong, who was a better player than Ron Harper. B. J. Armstrong was a better scorer, shooter and passer than Ron Harper. Nobody on the '91-'92 team rebounded like Dennis Rodman, I'll give them that but let's not forget the two most important players on the team.

Michael Jordan was the best player In the NBA in both of his first two stints so it's hard to compare him to himself but Scottie Pippen circa Jordan's first stint and Scottie Pippen circa Michael Jordan's second stint was not the same player. Scottie Pippen's numbers were better across the board in '91-'92 and I mean all across the board. Points, rebounds, assists, blocks steals, field goal percentage, free throw percentage. Scottie Pippen was still a very good player in '95-'96 but was on his way down, '91-'92 was the year that Pippen first reached his prime.

Well, I guess you have to keep in mind that this was an ESPN poll, which means most people voting on it aren't very old and don't have a very long attention span. It's kind of remarkable that they picked a team from over 10 years ago. I like the '70-71 Bucks team with Jabbar, Robertson and Dandridge that led the league in scoring, finished third in defense and went 12-2 in the playoffs, including a sweep in the Finals.

The 2005-06 New Orleans/Oklahoma Hornets-haha. I'm partial to the old Lakers/Celtics-Magic/Bird teams. I think they wre the greatest from the standpoint of what they did in bringing basketball into the national limelight.

No, the 1989 Detroit Pistons were. They were regarded as the finest defensive team ever. Remember this team also stiffled the greatest basketball player in history...Micheal Jordan. Also, rule changes occured because of that team which featured basketball hall of famers Joe Dumars and Isiah Thomas.
