The Truth About the Tempting "Wipe Warmer."
In the world of a new baby, a middle of the night diaper change with a cold wipe sounds like a sure-fire way to start a crying episode. At least that is what most first time parents with a new baby would perceive and what, in fact, the makers of the wipe warmers of the world would like you to believe. However, based on my experience and the product reviews of others, there are at least ten good reasons not to buy a wipe warmer.1. Space
Most of the wipe warmers are large bulky containers that probably will not fit on your changing table. So if you can not have the warmer on your changing table, where are you going to put it? It just is not particle to have your wipes anywhere else.
2. Plug
When you do find somewhere to put this bulky contraption, make sure there is an outlet nearby. Who needs another cord cluttering up the place?
3. Waste
The most common complaint is that the warmer’s heating element will dry out a significant number of wipes. So when a wipe is needed, the changer may have to pull out several dried wipes to reach a damp one. This in turn leads to wasted money and burnt wipes.
4. Burnt Wipes
Some parents have claimed to have “burnt” wipes. This is where the wipes have yellowed or browned from exposure to the heating element. Although this does not necessarily mean the warmer is a fire hazard, a first time parent may have difficulty sleeping knowing the warmer’s heating element is drying and browning the wipes. If the parent decided to unplug the warmer during the night for this reason, the wipes will no longer be warm for the middle-of-the-night diaper change.
5. Money
A standard wipe warmer runs around twenty dollars. The continued cost in electricity and wasted, dried out wipes, however, is continuous. Use this money for something more necessary than a wipe warmer.
- The warmer might make you waste a lot of wipes.
- There might not be a convenient place to put the warmer.
- The warmer might be more trouble than it is worth.

I never thought wipe warmers were necessary, but the Prince Lionheart great and low-priced. We use it with the Dresser Top Diaper Depot from Prince Lionheart, and it's a non-cluttered and organized way to keep your diapering necessities within reach. I have never had burnt wipes and if the pillow on the bottom discolors, you can rinse the discoloration right out of it when you wet it again. The wipes don't burn, you only get one wipe at a time, and your baby stays happy for diaper-changing time. IMHO, it's worth it...I'm not even a mom yet...I've been in the childcare industry for 6 years(In every setting imaginable), am currently a nanny and have tried several methods of diapering/toileting as well as having tried MANY different baby products. So far, this warmer with the Diaper Depot makes diapering even faster and easier, since your child is not squirming because of a cold wipe on the bum. I have the Prince Lionheart brand and I can't say enough but great things about it. My son was always fussy during changes, but this really proved to be a necessary item. He doesn't get startled and scream out anymore. I know it sounds corny, my husband thought I was nuts, but it's awesome when you actually have one.

I absolutely love my son's wipe warmer. Have never had any trouble with dried out or burnt wipes (have the Munchkin Deluxe)

I probably wouldn't get one for disposable wipes, but we use cloth wipes and this just makes sense. We also have the Prince Lionheart one. I is antimicrobial and keeps all the cloth wipes (that I moisten with filtered water and witch hazel) warm and conveniently ready to use. No burnt wipes.However we are ready to buy a new pad soon.

I highly recommend that a shopper check the 400+ reviews of the Prince Lionheart Warmer on Amazon--some parents love this warmer and some hate it. I love that one comment mentions that this warmer works best with Pampers brand wipes; it is great to know that ahead of time and not have to figure it out for yourself.....So, If you are thinking about buying a Prince Lionheart warmer, check out those reviews and see if the complaints other parents had are things that might bother you. If not, go for it!

I got a wipe warmer a couple of months ago and have had really no problems with it. It's a Prince Lionheart one. All the wipes are warm, there's a pad on the bottom of it so there are never and burned or brown wipes. My changer is next to a plug, no problems with that, NONE of the wipes are cold and it's not hard to remember the water thing. Every time I refill the wipes (which is once a week anyways), I wet the pad, that's all there is to it.
I think that wipe warmers are a waste of money.
I had a wipe warmer given to me with my second child. I ended up throwing it away. Everything in this article is soooooo true. I exspecially had trouble with number 4.
