It doesn't take long before you notice that your little one is starting to have certain interests and likes, whether it be that they really like dogs, cowboys or whatever. If you have a toddler who like pirates then they will likely love doing this fun toddler craft with you. The craft is both fun and simple so your toddler can help make it, have fun while they do it and have something to add to any of their pirate theme toys.

The supplies that you need for this craft are simple, construction paper, an empty tea box, glue or tape and scissors. The color of construction paper that you use is up to your toddler, both yellow and brown are popular choices to cover a pirate chest with because they are the color of gold and wood. The reason that it is suggested that you use an empty tea box for the craft is because they are shaped like a rectangular chest and their lids open and close as a pirate's treasure chest would.

Help your toddler cover the tea box with what ever color of construction paper that they want, or multiple colors that they want. You likely want to cover the outside and the inside of the box. This is something that you can help with by squirting the glue for them and helping them put the paper down properly. To give the box an arch on the lid like an actual pirate treasure chest would have cut out a piece of paper and glue one side of it to the top back of the box the other side of the paper to the front of the lid. You can cut out two half circles and tape or glue them to the sides. You also want to cut out yellow circles for gold coins, red ovals for rubies and rounded triangles for diamonds. Also cut out a keyhole shape for the top of the chest.

Lastly you can help you toddler glue the keyhole on the front of the arch that you made and to glue all of the different shapes that you cut out for the treasure together, giving you the chance to show your toddler what some of the different shapes and colors are. By gluing the shapes together you'll make a craft that isn't messy and if you want you can even glue the treasure into the chest.
