OCD which is obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety type of disorder. People who have obsessive compulsive disorder have unwanted thoughts, images, and even ideas, even impulses that are called obsessions, which they feel that they have no control. They would like to have these images and ideas to go away so the anxiety would be relief. It's a compulsion to take action of some kind and do it all over and then over again. An example could be if someone had an obsession to wash their hands over and over again, to get the germs off. Also men and women get this obsessive compulsive disorder the same. Sometimes it starts in their childhood even in their teen years and can go on and on for years. Around 2% of American adults have obsessive compulsive disorder, and it can range from mild to severe. People know their obsessions are strange and bizarre, but that also there is no danger to anyone. They also believe that these fears that they have are real, and that this disorder OCD may spend many hours doing things over and over again.

Not only washing ones hands but things in neat order and if there is someone who moves them out of place they notice right away and they have to do it all back in their order that they had it. Even counting, or repeating names or touching things all in an order that they may have done before. People with this obsessive compulsive disorder may have some symptoms like depression, or bipolar disorder. The symptoms get worse when they are under stress. I was watching Television the other night and on a talk show they had Alec Baldwin and he told the audience that he had this disorder. There are not any tests to show that you have this disorder. But the symptoms of yours and your family's history would tell the doctors for sure if that is what it is. You also may have obsessive compulsive disorder when you check things over and over, another symptom would be locking the doors over and over and turn the lights on and off. These compulsions make you feel anxious, and can interfere with a normal day of activities.
