"Sicko", a Michael Moore Documentary, Due Out in 2007

Pharmaceutical Industry Worried About Movie

Michael Moore's upcoming documentary "Sicko", due out in 2007, is aimed at the $1.5 trillion dollar health care and pharmaceutical industries, and has mobilized many in this industries to try to discredit Moore and the film, according th AdAge.com.

Moore, who received an academy award for the documentary "Bowling for Columbine", says he received 19,000 responses when he asked for input on the topic on his
 website.

"To read about the misery people are put through on a daily basis in our profit-based system was both moving and revolting", Moore stated.  " 'Sicko' is a comedy about 45 million people with no health insurance in the richest country on earth."

AdAge.com claims that the pharmaceutical industry is attempting to discredit the film.  Ken Johnson, senior vice president for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), says America needs "thoughtful and well-researched" investigation into American's health care problems, and insists Moore's film won't provide that.

But consumer health advocate Mike Adams disagrees.  "Big Pharma is the king of spin propaganda", he says.  "And drug companies will paint anything 'biased' if it doesn't bow down to the lies, distortions and fraud promoted by the industry.  Big Pharma is not merely afraid of Michael Moore, they're afraid of anything resembling honest scrutiny or investigative journalism, " he added.

Imagine what Big Pharma is afraid of?  100,000 people a year die in the U.S. from pharmaceutical drugs.  Are they afraid they will all end up in court and in the papers like Merck's Vioxx?

I am a public health educator and know that the American "Health Care" System itself is the third leading cause of death in America after heart disease and cancer. Depending upon which economic analysis you use to arrive at a yearly "cost" any of them reveal that our "health care" system is a multi trillion dollar industry that "treats" diseases, 80% of which can be prevented through lifestyle change and truthful education.

I hope Michael Moore skewers the pharmaceutical industry. They are all about greed and do not care if people like my son die from their scummy products.

I took zyprexa starting in 1996 the year the FDA approved it, which was ineffective for my condition and gave me diabetes. Zyprexa is the product name for Olanzapine,it is Lilly's top selling drug.It was approved by the FDA in 1996 ,an 'atypical' antipsychotic a newer class of drugs without the motor side effects of the older Thorazine.Zyprexa has been linked to causing diabetes and pancreatitis. Zyprexa, which is used for the treatment of psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, accounted for 32% of Eli Lilly's $14.6 billion revenue last year. Did you know that Lilly made nearly $3 billion last year on diabetic meds, Actos,Humulin and Byetta? Yes! They sell a drug that can cause diabetes and then turn a profit on the drugs that treat the condition that they may have caused in the first place! I was prescribed Zyprexa from 1996 until 2000. In early 2000 i was shocked to have an A1C test result of 13.9 (normal is 4-6) I have no histor
