Rice Dream Rice Milk: Product Review Dairy Free Good Taste

If you are vegan or lactose intolerant, you don't have to use soy milk products as an alternative. Soy milks and soy based soups tend to have an aftertaste that many people just plain don't like. It is wheat like and unpleasant and defeats the purpose of enjoying a dairy free alternative to milk.

The good news is that rice milk has no aftertaste and even has a slightly sweet, yet subtle taste that is pleasing.

Imagine Foods, the makers of Rice Dream, sell their original rice milk in boxes, similar to juice box mpackaging. They come in 8 ounce, 32 ounce and 64 ounce sizes. It tastes great with cereal, and for use in cream based soups. You can even fix yourself of chocolate milk using Rice Dream original and can enjoy it just as much as regular whole milk you probably loved as a child.

Rice Dream original is made from filtered water, partially milled organic brown rice and safflower oil and sea salt. Rice Dream is made from only non-genetically modified brown rice. Rice Dream Enriched Original, tastes the same as Original, however is enriched with vitamins A, D & B12. It also has the same calcium as milk and is considered low fat and natural. The B 12 is particularly of significance to vegans. Vegans, unlike vegetarians, do not eat dairy products of any kind. The source of the calcium in Rice Dream is tricalcium phosphate, which is a nutrient found in phosphate rock and lime.

Vegans and lactose intolerant folks alike, will find Rice Dream is an excellent alternative to Dairy milk and far superior in flavor to soy milk. 

Rice Dream has a long shelf life, generally the date stamped is one year ahead from the day you purchase it. However once you open it, it needs to be refrigerated and it tastes freshest if used within 4 or 5 days. The manufacturer says it will stay fresh in the refrigerator for 7 - 10 days, however I find the 5 day mark to be the longest period time it retains its full freshness. Unopened but refrigerated Rice Dream stays fresh for approximately 45 days according to the manufacturer.
