For those who have never been into a cavern, Smoke Hole Caverns is a must visit. The bizarre looking formations of minerals look like a scene from a lost world of an old science fiction movie. Bring a jacket as the caverns are fairly chilly. A sturdy pair of comfortable shoes is another must as the damp pathways can become slick. The tours through the caverns take a little less than an hour and will be pleasing for the entire family. Small children will need to be watched closely for their safety.
Smoke Hole Caverns offers rental cabins and a log hotel for those wishing to spend the night. Other cabin, hotel, and camping accommodations are present in great number in this area. The cabins are set stream side providing a nice family or couples setting. I didn't have a chance to fish the river or inquire about it but it looks like it would be a productive river. Restaurants are also plentiful in this area. While driving around don't pass up the small country stores that you see along the way. Aside from down home service, you never know what you might find in these quaint buildings.
