Why is Mountain Dew Code Red Disappearing from Store Shelves?

Do you Do the Dew? Are you a Mountain Dew addict like me? I grew up drinking Mountain Dew out of a glass bottle, back when the logo was a hillbilly complete with a piece of straw sticking out of his mouth and a shotgun in
his hand. And let me tell you that if you’ve never drank Mountain Dew from a glass bottle, you never really tasted Mountain Dew. I look forward to the movement to bring back glass bottles for soft drinks. Not only Mountain Dew, but also Coke tastes loads better from a bottle.

As I said, I grew up drinking Mountain Dew and was almost giddy the first time I saw there was a cherry-flavored variation. Mountain Dew Code Red became my beverage of choice and I felt I was in nirvana whenever I drank it; or least Sweden I wasn’t alone; Mountain Dew Code Red instantly became a huge hit. I was under the impression that sales had remained strong, but in the past year or so I’ve come to question that assumption. Mountain Dew Code Red drinkers probably know what I’m talking about. Or, least those who live in the South. I don’t know about the rest of the country, but something strange and irritating is going on and I can only blame the folks at Pepsi. This appears to be one of the few problems facing the country that George W. Bush isn’t responsible for.

Where has all the Mountain Dew Code Red gone? A product that used to be positively ubiquitous has nearly disappeared off store shelves. Whenever I had to go for one of those long, involved excursions at a grocery store, I always made the trip a little easier on myself by picking up a 20 ounce bottle of Code Red out of the cooler near the checkout. Well, that’s not possible anymore. Both Walmart and Winn Dixie no longer carry 20 ounce bottles of Code Red inside the soft drink coolers at the checkout counters. Yes, you can buy it from a vending machine in the lobby or outside, but I’ve grown weary of losing money that way. ($3.50 I lost at Disney World and that was just one drink!) Albertson’s still carries 20 ounce Code Red, but you never know when they’ll be stocked. Sometimes you get lucky; other times not so much.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I live in South Carolina and Diet Code Red has been popping up everywhere in 12pack cans. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like finding a Unicorn.

I actually live right across the street from the Pepsico headquarters in NY, and so many times have I been temped to go over there and demand to know what happened to code red.. I can find the smaller bottles, but it's tough, they're never fully stocked, and run out quickly. The thing is, I always loved the cans and they are nowhere to be found in NJ, eastern PA and here in NY. I nee d those cans!

I love Code Red. Since becoming diabetic I had to switch to Diet CR. But I moved from GA to NY and it became very diffucult and then impossible to find Diet CR here. I was able to find it in PA when visiting relatives so I would stock up then. But now they don't seem to have it in PA either. I really wish they would come back with Diet CR in 2 LT and 20/24 oz bottles. And they had, for a little while, caffine-free Moutain Dew which was perfect for my friend who loves Mountain Dew but can't have the caffine any more. Now that's impossible to find too. Bring them both back, PEPSI!!!!!

OMG! I love mountain dew code red and they just took it off the fountain drink machines at my local gas station. They still have the bottles and if they ever get rid of those I'm going to go insane. Hmm...worst comes to worst and I stop drinking soda period and I live a long healthy life. =(

i live in the hot desert climate of Phoenix Arizona, and we have no problem finding any and all Mt. Dew spin offs. We have in all grocery stores, that I've been in, CR, LW, Midnight 1&2 (not a big fan of it and it's only sold during Holloween) Baja at select places, ofcourse the original, and the 3 new flavors that you can vote on, Revolution (my fave), voltage, and Supernova. I still think that Diet soda is the antichrist of the soda world but i guess people like it so whatever floats your boat, but i still think that the original is the best. and the reason behind the headaches is the sudden stop of caffine. i find that no asprin or haedache medicine works quite like Excedrin, it does have caffine in it though. hope that helps.

OMG!!! I thought I was the only one who loved the diet mountain dew code red!! When they stopped selling it in PA, I would drive to Ohio to buy it. Now, I live in Ohio and I can get the 12 pack cans at Walmart, but I LOVE it in bottles. It is so much better. I am seeing it leaving the shelves in the gas stations which is going to anger me. I think I might go to Pepsi's website and let them know there. are others out there like me...thankfully
