Kids love Valentine's Day, and if there's a certain someone in one of their classes, they're definitely hoping to get a really great valentine from him or her. When the school day is over, and the valentines are all exchanged, go home and make this valentine card holder that will show your favorite ones off to your friends and family. It's very simple to make the valentine card holder. All you really need is a piece of cardboard, cut to the shape of a heart, and a few craft supplies. As a matter of fact, the cardboard heart can be cut from a cereal box, and the craft supplies can be mostly things you already have around the house. The heart can be huge, to hold lots of valentines, or can be smaller and hold just a few.
You'll need a base to hold the cardboard heart upright. Two blocks of wood is just the ticket, but if you don't happen to have them, there are other things you can use. Glue squares or rectangles of cardboard together, until you have a nice block of the cardboard, and make another one of the same size and bulk. Or, turn a plastic bowl or container over, cut a slit in the bottom, and glue the point of the heart into the slit. The same can be done with an empty cardboard box. There are many different ways to create a base for the cardboard heart, but which ever way you choose, be sure to leave plenty of the heart itself, rising above the stand.
Decorate the cardboard heart in any manner you wish. Glitter, sequin, fake jewels, paint pens, charms, fabric, printed paper and colored foam are all options for decorating the cardboard heart. You can write what you want on the heart using craft paints or stickers, or you can simply cover the heart in white satin. Look around the house to see what other things you can use to decorate it. Want to go really cheap? Just tear colored paper of white and pink, into small pieces, and glue them all over the cardboard heart. It's a fluffy look that's cheap but attractive.
