Will Pres. Bush Take the Opportunity of Last State of the Union Address to Apologize to the American People?

Probably Not

Pres. Bush will look into the camera in his patented deer-in-the-headlights look that befits a man who knows he is consistently out of his element and spends all his time marveling at how he hasn't yet been caught and deliver a State of the Union address for the final time tonight. By the way, if he really wants to do us all a favor, I would like to suggest a succinct and to the point speech that sums up the entire state of the union.

"My fellow Americans, the state of America sucks. And I don't have a clue what to do about it. Good night."

Of course, he won't say that, nor will he take my other suggestion to heart. With just one more lame duck year left in his debacle, Mr. Bush faces another several hundred unnecessary deaths of young soldiers in Iraq...Afghanistan...Pakistan...and possibly even Iraq. The economy has been tanking for seven years and the only plan he can come up with is rob Peter next year to pay Peter this year. Gasoline prices may very well have quadrupled from his first state of the union address back in 2001; already the doubling of gas prices during one President's term is unprecedented. In short, instead of using phony statistics to belie the truth about this failures, and instead of making even more promises he can't keep, what Mr. Bush should do tonight during his state of the union speechifying is 1) avoid mispronouncing the word nuclear, and 2) apologize to America.

Takeaways
  • He could apologize for the over 900 lies he told about Iraq.
  • He could apologize for having no economic plan.
  • He could apologize for appointing a series of incompetent peopel to positions of power.

Before and after the debate my answer would have still been No.

"My fellow Americans, the state of America sucks. And I don't have a clue what to do about it. Good night." --------- God if he'd do that I might actually have some respect for him.......no, probably not. You know he's just going to ramble on about how great everything is and how happy we all are. I left the US to live in Thailand almost 5 years ago and don't regret it for a moment. Every time I go back to the US it seems more and more lost and people seem incredibly stressed and depressed. Then I look at my life in Thailand and know I could never give it up to go back to that. Sad.

It will have to be up to the next president to apologize for the debacle that the Bush presidency has been...(and hopefully to prosecute!!)

I suspect he'll say the state of the union is solid. He may even believe it. His call for an economic stimulus package comes on the heels of his telling the world the U.S. economy is just fine. Even as the dollar dropped to all-time lows against the euro. He's a sick and disturbed individual. And what's even more frightening is that more than a quarter of this nation still supports him. Half are willing to put another man in the White House who is just like him.
