Celebrities Walked the Red Carpet with Pizzazz at the SAG Awards

The Only Awards Show to Happen so Far in 2008 Didn't Fail to Thrill

After two huge misses with the People's Choice and Golden Globe Awards, fashionistas finally got to experience some red carpet glamour at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Luckily, the stars did not disappoint. Even some of the men went out on a limb to provide a little color and pizzazz.

Black, charcoal, brown, yellow, blue, green, and all shades of purple and white were present. For the most part, the women looked unusually elegant and polished. While most chose floor length gowns, a few opted for short dresses and one or two even donned a tux.

Glenn Close, who often misses with fashion, looked every bit the star in elegant green and silver gown with a loosely upswept hairdo. But she wasn't the only one wearing green.

Diane Lane chose a deep forest green gown that accented her lovely eyes and hair, which she pushed back in an elegant do. Amanda Bynes, a nominee for Hairspray, chose a teal green babydoll style gown with silver beading at the bust. She kept her hair soft and loose, pulling it up only slightly in front. The look was stunning without overstepping the bounds of propriety for someone so young.

Metallics were popular as well. Nominee Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) wore a metallic plum colored leather coat that looked good with her flaming red hair. However, it did seem just a tad underwhelming for such an elegant night.

Nominees Debra Messing (The Starter Wife) and Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) also choose metallics. Debra went for gold sequins and glitter that accented her red hair to a tee. She left her locks loose and wavy; very Rita Hayworth. Christina, on the other hand, opted for soft silver and white that made her look like a snow queen. Her icy blond locks were pulled back and up in a very soft and youthful style.

Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy) also opted for golden sequins but softened the look with a shorter, form fitting cocktail dress. She sported a new, edgy bob hairstyle that well suited her bubbling personality.

Takeaways
  • Blacks, whites, colors, and metallics were popular among the women of SAG.
  • Men stepped up their game in order to keep pace with the women.

It was a great show - I loved when Daniel Day Lewis dedicated his win to Heath Ledger - that was such poignant class.

Looking forward to the photos in the mags this weekend. Somehow, this seems a guilty pleasure, of sorts. But we still want to ogle the fashionistas. :-)
