It is that time of year again. The State of the Union address will be presented to the American people this evening. The State of the Union speech is given annually. In this speech the president touches on key points surrounding the current state of the country as well as the steps that he or she will take to ensure a steady future. President Bush, in his past State of the Union addresses, focused on issues such as the occupation of Iraq, terrorism, and immigration.

Tonight the rhetoric, the clapping, and the flowery words will all still be present however the issues Bush will focus on are more likely to be domestic in nature. The president has been in an uphill battle with congress and the American people to enforce his foreign policy. With the war machine in Iraq digging in for the long haul as well as past budget victories for Bush regarding terrorism, it is unlikely that he will focus on these issues. Of course they will be mentioned but only in passing.

With whispers of a recession in America, many people are bracing for a tumbling economy that will lead to vast inflation, government cuts, and job loss. The president over the past couple of weeks has focused his efforts on what to do to stave off this recession. Most people are assuming that he will try to solve the problem through tax cuts. While this has been a strategy of his in the past, it is unlikely that this is the whole picture. The fact of the matter is that the President has not said exactly what will be done to revamp the American economy.

If this country wants to know exactly where the economy of this country is heading; all of it will be outlined in the State of the Union address tonight. The president is most certainly going to lay out his proposed fiscal policy for the remainder of his term. He will most likely pay special attention to the earmarking of tax dollars, the budget, and proposed tax cuts. His budget proposals will contain the usual funding requirements for Iraq as well as the Department of Homeland Security.
