Throughout history one of World Wrestling Entertainment's most successful divisions has been the tag team division. From teams like the Bushwhackers, Demolition, and Legion of Doom to the Dudley Boys, New Age Outlaws, and Rated RKO, there have always been great tag teams in the WWE. When it comes time to split a tag team up though, some wrestlers excel much greater than their partners ever did. Here is a look at the best singles wrestlers who started on a tag team.

Jeff Hardy: The "Rainbow Haired Warrior" Jeff Hardy made a huge impact in the WWE with his brother Matt forming the tag team duo of the Hardy Boyz. They participated in multiple tag team ladder matches, cage matches, and the first ever Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. They proved time and time again that they had what it takes to be successful in the tag team division and would eventually split up. While Matt saw pretty good success in memorable feuds with M.V.P and Edge, Jeff Hardy has taken off to heights that no one could predict. He has had multiple reigns as the Intercontinental champion and even gotten a couple of World Title shots. He could soon be a main fixture in the WWE main event scene.

Shelton Benjamin: Benjamin originated on the "World's Greatest Tag Team", teaming with Charlie Hass and winning multiple titles during their run, but once he broke off from his partner, his potential as a WWE Superstar only grew greater. He participated in instant classics with Triple H and Shawn Michaels and stole the show at Wrestlemania's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. With a little more character he could become the next Rock in the WWE.

Shawn Michaels: The "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels may be part of one of the biggest tag team break ups in wrestling history. The Rockers wrestled together for years, but Shawn wanted the spotlight in singles competition and he got it when he threw Marty Jennety through a glass window pane. He would later go on to feud with Jennety, but he eventually put him in the dust as he rose to the top of the WWE ladder and became one of their greatest wrestlers.
