Lucy has never had much luck with men. She has serious commitment issues and an overactive imagination. What would it be like to meet some of the world's greatest lovers? Dreaming about such things is relatively harmless, right?

After being dumped by her boyfriend, Anthony, and fired from her job, Lucy finds herself with the opportunity of a lifetime. Her former boss sends her a time machine that was sent to the office by a former flame. With time on her hands, Lucy puts the machine together and decides to take a chance. Her first stop is to see Lord Byron, one of the most notorious lovers of the 18th century. Her adventure with Byron takes her from England to Switzerland, where she also meets Percy and Mary Shelley. When she finally returns to the present time, Lucy struggles with her changing relationship with Anthony as they try to continue to be friends.

Taking more trips in the time machine, Lucy meets Leonardo da Vinci, only to discover something she hadn't expected. Her next trip, this time to meet Ovid, almost gets her killed. Meanwhile, her friendship with Anthony seems to be working out well, even though he is exhibiting signs of jealousy when he sees her looking at other men. But things take an almost tragic turn during a trip Anthony and Lucy take to the 1920s that makes Lucy realize that perhaps the greatest love of her life is right in front of her.

But it may be too late. Anthony has found someone else. What's worse, he plans to marry this new love in America! Lucy is invited to the wedding, and with the time machine packed away in her suitcase, she takes off for New York. A disastrous rehearsal dinner sends her back to the time machine to meet Casanova, the world's greatest lover. Should she stay with him or try to grab her true love before it is too late?
