One of the hottest design and décor trends of 2008 is that of the black and white damask pattern. A personal favorite of mine, I have had a difficult time finding glassware to fit the pattern I adore so much. Thus, I created this project as a way to marry functionality with style.

For this project, you will need:

- Four (or more) "Diod" glasses in white (available at Ikea)

- 2" Floral Flourishes Border (available online from StenSource)

- Sponge brush

- Artist's brush

- Masking tape

- Spray adhesive

- Ruler

- Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner

- Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Paint in Ultra Black

- Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Paint in Fuchsia

- Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Clear Gloss

- Soap and water

- Paper towels

- Newspaper

Begin first by making sure your workspace is adequately coated with newspaper. Wash each of the Ikea "Diod" glasses with soap and water. Dry well with paper towels.

Coat each glass thoroughly with Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner using the sponge brush. Let the glasses dry for three to four hours before continuing. Apply a layer of masking tape around the top 1" of each glass and the bottom 1" of each glass.

Lay the 2" Floral Flourishes Border plastic flat on your workspace. Hold the can of spray adhesive eight to twelve inches above your workspace and spray a light mist onto the stencil. (This should not be overdone as you are only creating a temporary adhesion to the glass.) Press the stencil lightly to the glass so that it sticks while working with it, but can be peeled off.

With the sponge brush, fill in the stencil using Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Paint in Ultra Black. Allow the black paint to set for about an hour before adding a second coat. After another hour of drying, remove the stencil. Fill in additional outlines and details of the stenciled pattern with an artist's paintbrush and Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Paint in Fuchsia.

Takeaways
  • It is important to let the glosses and paints set between steps.
  • This project is dishwasher safe when completed.
  • Be creative! Add additional details as desired.
