Maxine Waters backs Hillary Clinton: Like it or not race and gender plays a big factor in the eyes of the voters. If you don't want to believe that then you haven't followed any of the factual real numbers after each primary and caucus. Hillary Clinton caries the Woman vote and Barack Obama carries the African American vote, leaving John Edwards demographic White men with support starting to grow everywhere else.

Hillary Clinton was already expected to take the California Primaries this February 5th on "Super Tuesday" so why does the endorsement of California Congress Woman Maxine Waters matter? Well it's not exactly a deal breaker but it's defiantly a positive that will help her in a number of areas.

This contest has come to a game of tit for tat. Barack Obama's endorsement of Senator Ted Kennedy a close friend of the Clinton's has landed as somewhat of a personal blow. Hillary Clinton was able to respond the very next day by announcing the endorsement of a powerful black woman. Every political endorsement for Hillary is one less endorsement for the competition. With Hillary running as the "experienced candidate" every endorsement her competitors gain is somewhat of a political validation and that isn't something she wants.

This also works as an addition by damage control. It would have been bad for Clinton to have Barack Obama get such and endorsement in a state he needs help with not to mention a woman. Every political endorsement for Hillary is one less endorsement for the competition. With Hillary running as the "experienced candidate" every endorsement her competitors gain is somewhat political validation and that isn't something she wants.
