Painting your kitchen cabinets can be a fun redecorating project. No matter what material your cabinets are made out of you can still paint them and give them a fresh new look. Before you begin you really should take the time to think about how you would like your cabinets to look. Once you have decided on a color and a design you are just about ready to begin. You will need to gather the following items together for you cabinet painting project.
1. Sponges (2)
2. Screwdriver
3. Bucket
4. All purpose cleaner (Lysol Disinfectant)
5. Paint
6. Drop cloth or plastic garbage bags
7. Sandpaper (fine)
8. Primer-Make sure that when you select your primer you choose one that matches the type of paint you will be using. For example if you are using an oil based paint then you should use an oil base primer
9. Paint brush (good quality)
10. Tape
Once you have gathered together all of the materials listed above you are ready to get started.
Step 1.
The first thing that you need to do is determine where you will be painting your doors. If you will be staying right in your kitchen than you will want to make sure that you open all of the windows to get enough ventilation into the room. If you will be going in another location make sure you can get plenty of air. Once you have decided where you will be doing your painting then you can lay about your drop cloth or garbage bags on the floors.
Step 2.
Next you can remove all of the cabinet doors. This can be easily done by unscrewing your cabinet doors with the screwdriver. Be careful not to lose any of the screws so that you don't end up having to run to the store and replace them.
Step 3.
Once you have the doors off you can start cleaning your cabinet doors and the inside of your cabinets. The inside of the cabinets probably don't need a whole lot of cleaning but a quick wipe down would be good. Fill your bucket with water and cleaner and start wiping the inside of the cabinets and the cabinet doors with your sponge. If you clean the doors first you can allow them to dry while you wipe the inside of the cabinets.
