Infidelity expert Ruth Houston always tells her clients the same important tip: "Don't hire a private investigator!"

Houston says that decades of first hand experience with suspicious partners has taught her that if you really want to know for sure, P.I.'s aren't the way to go. She claims that in most cases suspicious partners can spend a small fortune and get little to no results. This is because there is often not enough opportunity or time to catch a cheating spouse in the process of the dirty deed.

The one exception to Ruth's rule is Valentine's Day.

The relationship expert says that the only surefire way to trap a cheating spouse and get evidence using an investigator is between February 13th and 15th.

The reasoning behind this is simple: Any cheater who wants to stay in the good graces of their affair will be giving or receiving a Valentine's gift. This often means meeting with their secret partner in order to do so. If a cheating partner does not meet with this fling on Valentine's Day, then it is likely they will get together the day before or the day after.

Houston says this is how to get the best use out of your time and money when hiring a private detective. Usually these cases can drag on-and-on at great expense, but Valentine's Day is really where you get the most "bang" for your buck.

If you decided to hire someone to follow your partner Ruth says you can save a lot of time and money by hiring someone for just 1-3 days, around Valentine's. You can even save money on billed hours by selecting what times your partner would have the opportunity to meet with a secret lover and have your detective follow them in those hours.

Other than that the expert does not recommend hiring an investigator. She says that most tell tale signs can be picked up with out own eyes and ears if we're willing to take notice. She adds that often cheated partners know the truth on their own, but are afraid to face it.

Houston has recently released a book, "Is He Cheating on You? 829 Telltale Signs", as a guide for suspicious partners to find out the truth about their partners fidelity on their own.
