Improper dietary choices may be convenient for a busy lifestyle, but quick and fat-filled snacks actually rob much needed energy from a working body. In order to maintain proper physical and mental faculties, snacks and meals should not only be frequent, but healthy. The right types of food can provide an even, long-lasting source of energy and ward off the blood sugar crashes that frequently leave people feeling tired.

Fresh fruits really are the wonder snacks mothers worldwide claim them to be. Fruits with skins such as apples, oranges, pears and peaches have the added benefit of being packed full of vitamins and fiber. In the heat of the summer, nothing satisfies like a sweet, juicy peach to cool down and provide the body with lots of vitamin C, vitamin A, beta carotene, potassium, niacin or vitamin B3, dietary fiber, and potassium. Potassium helps manage fluids, aids in cell and muscle growth, and aids the electrical system of the heart. Niacin is important for tissue growth and boosts energy.

Almonds and dried apricots work in concert to bestow large quantities of fiber, iron, protein, and vitamin A. Vitamin A, in particular, is found in apricots and is essential to strong bones, the health of the reproduction system, guarding against infection, and helping vision. Apricots are also full of potassium, which maintain body fluid levels. Almonds and apricots are also short on trouble substances like sodium and cholesterol.

Sesame and carrot stick are easy to pop into a lunch box and are loaded with great nutrients such as fiber, beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and B9, vitamin C, iron, potassium, and copper. Vitamin B9, also known as folate, is indispensable to the cell cycle because it is necessary for new production and continuing growth. In addition, this essential vitamin aids in creating red blood cells and in the digestion of proteins. Vitamin A protects the lungs by warding off infection, boosting night vision, and promoting healthy skin. Beta carotene is part of the fight against cancer and heart disease.
