Sony's lines of LCD Flat Panel HDTV displays include models for every price budget and models for the average consumer on up to those interested in getting the best LCD displays available. Their sizes range from 26 inches on up to sets that are 70 inches in size. Each model line has some similarities and some differences. And of course, price differentiates between the model lines. This overview will focus on the 40" Sony Bravia W Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV with the model number KDL-40W3000.

This LCD set is distinguished by the model number KDL-40W3000. To understand what the model number means, I will briefly discuss the number designation. You can ignore the first three letters of KDL as they are used on all Sony LCD displays. The next two numbers 4 and 0 imply that this is a 40 inch display. The following letter of W indicates that this is a W Series flat panel display. The final numbers of 3000 indicates that this model has speakers on the side rather than on the bottom. So the model number simply designates this display as a 40 inch W series model with side speakers.

This particular set has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1999.99. The W Series is considered to be Sony's second best model line and is situated in price below the XBR series and above the V series.

This particular 40 inch LCD set is a full 1080p set. This means that it can display all of the details of true high definition and should be able to outperform comparable 720p sets in terms of picture quality with high definition content.

Next we will move on to the specifications that apply to this specific set. When comparing an LCD set to another LCD set, two specifications are usually looked at. They include the refresh rate and the contrast ratio.

This particular set employs a refresh rate that is not provided by the manufacturer and is unknown. Though it should be noted that most users of this set believe the refresh rate to be below 120 hertz and image blur is more noticeable on this set than on Sony's XBR sets which have a refresh rate of 120 hertz.
