The OAC at Beale AFB, California, is at the recreational heart of the base. It offers families a chance to get out and about in the local area and further afield with the help of a dedicated team, which also includes volunteers. If it was not for the OAC, many newly arrived military families would not know so much about the local area or get to travel as much. The OAC offers day excursions to Sacramento, San Francisco, wine tours in Napa Valley, theme parks, skiing in the mountains and so much more. If the idea of volunteering sounds appealing to you, then read on to learn of some of the benefits of volunteering for the OAC.

Free Entry

One of the greatest benefits of volunteering for the OAC is the fact that volunteers get the chance to enter theme parks, museums, zoos, and other attractions completely free of charge. Of course, spending money will be required for refreshments and entertainment once they enter the attractions. But being able to enjoy free entry to some of the local top attractions is great for volunteers who are on a tight budget such as young airmen.

Meet New People

Moving to a new base can leave many military personnel and their family members feeling very isolated and alone in the first few weeks and months. But if you choose to volunteer for the OAC, you will get to meet a lot of different people along the way. Some of the same people take advantage of the regular excursions and trips planned by the OAC.

Social Life!

I spoke with one particular OAC volunteer, who also happens to be an airmen stationed at Beale AFB. She said that if it wasn't for the OAC, she would have no social life. In return for driving people to their destination and back to the base again, she enjoyed free entry to every trip she attended, the chance to see a lot of great attractions and sites, and she also got to enjoy a very active social life.

Takeaways
  • OAC volunteers enjoy free entry to attractions
  • Volunteers drive people to and from the attractions and get to enjoy a fun day out too
