Try to imagine this scene at the next GOP debate: John McCain and Mitt Romney battling to see who can position himself as the staunchest supporter of gay marriage rights. Ridiculous, right? Political suicide since 99% of GOP voters are viciously opposed to gay marriage and the majority of all voters are against it. And yet nobody in the press has so far suggested that Romney and McCain engaged in political suicide when they wrangled over the right to position themselves as the most solid opponent to a timetable for withdrawal of troops from Iraq despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans have indicated in a series of polls that a timetable for a swift withdrawal of troops is exactly what they want.

Since Romney dropped out yesterday...or "suspended" his campaign as they like to say...I can safely say McCain;)
