Who doesn’t want whiter teeth? With the myriad of products out there for turning your dim yellows to pearly whites it’s hard to decide what actually works. Well, let me simplify it a little and explain that whitening strips are better in any situation than whitening toothpastes. Why is that? Whitening agents will make your teeth more sensitive right after use, but will really show results. However, whitening toothpastes are more than twice the amount of regular toothpaste and have no real power to whiten your teeth as far or further than the leave in treatments. Rembrandt is the most respected brand of toothpaste whitener, but they are more than just super expensive, they are a waste of my valuable writing time. So, instead I have a few things to say for the middle grade toothpaste whitener—Arm and Hammer’s Advance White Toothpaste. Here are ten reasons not to save your money to buy regular anti-cavity toothpaste and whitening strips instead.

10. No Advancement of White

First off if you are expecting something to “advance” to white than you are sorely mistaken. As far as I can tell, after one tube, I still have the same shade teeth as when I started. Scout’s honor.

9. Yuck!

The tube says it’s a ‘mint’ flavor, but I’d call it baking soda without the entire flavor. It tastes awful and is bitter. I suppose you’ll get used to it, but the initial…sixty times is masochistic.

8. Nothing Minty About It

As an expected side effect to using toothpaste we expect that our breath will be freshened. Well think again! Because of its bitter taste and scent you won’t find yourself feeling minty fresh afterwards.

7. Extra Steps

In consequence to number 8, you will have to use a mouthwash or breath mint just to get the taste out. Thanks for adding a step to my oral hygiene!

6. You’ll Never Finish the Tube

The oversized metallic box this comes in boasts that your teeth will be whiter after the use of just one tube. The whole tube? The only problem is that it tastes so bad, and works so ineffectively that you won’t want to even test out the guarantee.

Takeaways
  • Toothpastes were made for protection against cavities. All-in-one toothpaste whiteners are a waste.
  • Guarantee is hard to disprove. It's opinion based
  • Doesn't whiten and tastes awful.
Did You Know?
When most people smile only 10 of their teeth are visible. This is why most whitening strips only cover the front uppers and lowers.

It is way more effective than typical flouride toothpaste because it contains baking soda. I have personally used baking soda as a whitening agent and had a lot of success. I totally disagree with this article.

I, as with all the other commenters, disagree. This toothpaste makes way for a lustrous smile.

Did you ever consider that you are one of few that it did not work for? There are many reason for a whitening toothpaste not working: 1. you smoke 2. you didn't use it regularly like you should have 3. you drink a lot of soda, tea, coffee, etc. or 4. you just got unlucky. Because everybody I have talked to has had great success with this toothpaste! Your article is rude, condescending, and technically has no evidence of anything that would hold up. All it is, is your silly opinion. If you don't like the toothpaste, don't buy it. Don't talk other people into not buying it because you are just hurting them and inhibiting the wonderful whitening of their teeth. The audacity of some people . . .

Arm and Hammer makes great toothpaste. It takes more than one tube. It is an ongoing process. If you smoke of course you might not notice a difference right away. I like the way they feel squeaky clean.

I disagree. This toothpaste is wonderful. Been using it for 2 years. You get used to the taste. No sensitivity and no abrasive. You can purchase it at the Dollar store or Big Lots for much less and it returned my teeth to the whiteness I had when I had them professionally bleached years ago. Gritty, but just rinse alot and drink water afterwards.

i disagree. i have started using it for a couple weeks and my teeth are already many shades whiter. i can now smile with confidence again without tea/coffee stained teeth. and the feeling of clean that it gives you is pretty scary because i never thought my teeth could ever feel that clean. i do agree that the taste is not very pleasant, but i think you get used to it after a while. i think it's a minor thing compared to the benefits i get and the fact that it doesn't make my teeth sensitive.
