We've taken a wrong turn. Our society is completely dependent on an addictive substance called the Internet; a behemoth creature of science bent on destroying us all. This creature called internet has regressed society. It's the embodiment of a step back in our societal evolution.

There is no need for personal communication anymore. The Internet replaces it. Text messaging, email, Instant Messaging and even today's television all find their roots in internet technology. Each device bypasses the natural order of communication, taking away the need to actually be around people. Individualizing the masses is just another way to lump them all together as "Individuals."

Grammar goes down the toilet with the continued lack of interpersonal communication. Text messages are a breeding ground for poorly created abbreviations and acronyms that pop up constantly in the vocabulary of the youth. "I'll see you later," becomes, "C U l8er." This sort of thing might seem limited in its detriment, but it penetrates more than simply the written word. It trickles in to everyday speech. You might hear a passer-by on the street say to another, "Latro 1337meister," which, I believe, translates to, "I shall see you when again our paths meet, farewell dear friend." It's more than just slang, it's slang derived from what has become a basis for our culture.

The ability to hermitize oneself is much less of a hassle thanks to the Internet. Can't face people at the supermarket? Shop online and have your food delivered for a minimal fee. Can't stand the thought of actually having to run your daily errands? Try doing them online, chances are, you probably can. Banking, shopping, shipping and shop keeping are just a click away. You can live through the internet. Still, we wonder why American obesity is a problem. Perhaps if the general public had to go somewhere to continue a stable lifestyle it wouldn't be. The Internet is the greatest enabling force the world has ever seen. Instant gratification is granted for little to no effort.
