If you’re a crafter it’s risky to throw away anything these days - there are so many projects now that offer a way to use normally discarded items. Twelve ounce soda cans, for example, can be turned into some fabulous home decor pieces and craft projects. Rinse the cans when empty, tear off the pop-tops, and you’re well on your way to beautifying your home.

A pop can makes a fabulous candle holder. Covering the soda can in fabric means you can match it to any decor and it’ll be easy to create. Just use decoupage glue to affix the material to the can. Any number of things can be used to cover the top and bottom of the can. Glue on old cd’s for a shiny look, use cheap coasters as the base and top for a more decorative appearance, or just use thick scrapbook paper to make the top and bottom. No one will be able to tell it was once a soda can and the project is easy enough for children to do.

Use seven pop cans to make a unique plant stand. Cover each in fabric then glue them together, placing one can in the center and arranging the other six cans around it. Glue the cans together to form a flower-type shape. Draw around the shape onto a piece of cardboard. This will be the bottom of the plant stand. You can also use a piece of wood, vinyl or another type of material. Cut a second flower shape for the top of the plant stand, using vinyl this time, for the top. Glue the top and bottom shapes onto the can arrangement and you’ll have a very unique plant stand for any room of the house.

Cover a soda can with fabric and glue the can onto a rectangular piece of wood. Paint the wood or leave it unfinished. The can should be placed on its side at the spot where the fabric ends meet. Personalize the wooden base by attaching a monogram, a small wooden anchor shape, or decorative rope around the bottom edge. Now poke holes through the fabric and can with something slightly larger than a pencil. A drill bit and hammer work well. Set the holey soda can on your desk as a pencil and pen holder.

if you take the top of a pop can and rub it back and forth on a concrete ground, the top will pop off and you've got an emptyable ashtray.
