As consumers become more and more immune to commercials, the Television industry must find ways to get out attention without completely annoying us. Here is my idea the TV producers can use to keep their sponsorship while eliminating some of the annoying commercials.

Integrate the products into the show.

Television writers should have little problem hawking items from diet coke to tampons to the general public, with a bit of creative writing. Imagine these scenarios:

Scenario 1 for commercial free TV
Teenage girl sitting alone under a tree. Teenage boy enters with two bottle of coca cola, sits down hands one to the girl.Girl comments on how much she loves coca cola, before the actual conversation starts.

Scenario 2 for commercial free TV
Girl getting ready for pool party and is apparently nervous. Mother enters with a box of Tampax Tampons and puts them in her bag. The mother mentions that these should put her at ease at the pool party. Normal conversation follows.

Scenario 3 for commercial free TV
Child wakes up with stomach ache and walks into kitchen Mother notices discomfort and pulls out bottle of Pepto Bismol and tell him how much better it will make him feel. Child comments that the taste is not too bad. Before you know it, he is on his way to school.

By now, I am sure you get the picture. I am having a bit of fun with this, but it could actually work. TV shows could begin and end with extended commercials, but during the show, all marketing would be based on product placement.

In addition, products could be attached to stars in the same way sports gear is attached to athletes. A popular female actress could be known for only wearing a certain brand of shoes in everything she does. She could slip the name in on occasion. A popular male star could make a car as famous as he is. A certain older actor could be known for the sexual dysfunction drug of his choice (gross, but memorable).

product should be placed in the plot instead of in annoying commercials

Takeaways
  • Instead of commercials, products could be integrated into shows.
  • Products could be attached to stars in the same way sports gear is attached to athletes
Did You Know?
Mention Aspercreme and think of Regis Philbin. In addition, Star Jones is known for Pay less Shoes.

Drivel. Aimed at the unintelligent masses that cannot decide what to buy on their own. I will buy which ever razor I like when I get to the store, advertise in Walmart! That is where the products are anyway! I have refused to watch TV for several years now and have gone to the internet for entertainment. At least there the ads are on the side and top and I do not have to wade through them to get what I want. When a commercial airs, I fell like they treat us like cattle. Heard us to their restaraunt, get us to buy what they want us to buy. Frankly, it is insulting to say the least. I am not an idiot and stop treating me like one!

I have to agree with Insp6000 about the obnoxious ads that Rocky's Autos air. Their advertisements have always been annoying, but the most recent ad is flat out disgusting! The commercial's theme goes along the line of things that you shouldn't reuse, and it shows presumably that hick goofball "Rocky" pulling down his drawers, and they are heavily stained with "Skid Marks"! Who the heck wants to see that crap (pun intended), especially during dinner hour? I can guarantee, I will NEVER purchase a auto from them.

If I see it in a commercial I don't buy it. Commercials are annoying and dumb, as are "advertising" your menstrual cycle or penis problems.

i agree with the method that the original message states. i despise commercial breaks. makes me feel the way i feel about the way the government just sticks a plate of bull under our noses and expects us to just sit there and deal with it. very awkward feeling. present day options for tv access are local antenna, cable, and satellite . i think local antenna stations can only survive with promoters. however cable and satellite do not require any promotions, they are in control entirely what is displayed as their tv service list. now with 50 news stations, 10 weather stations WTF. all paid advertisement stations are labeled as such, and if thats what you want to watch then go ahead. stop force feeding us things that most of will purposely avoid. yes you read that correctly. any and all commercials of course i remember them, and their jingles, and what i remember most is to not participate in any thing that is being offered in commercial form. ahah

Why do we need product commercials at all? I'd be willing to double my cable bill to see programming just as it is. I don't buy products based on too many commercials. Here in Denver, Rocky's Autos runs many ads. I'd never buy a car from them based on them cramming ads down my throat. Same with anything that starts with "Hi, Billy Mays here" or Hi, I'm, Fran Tarkenton, or any other pitch man with a Brit or Ausy accent. I don't need to pay shipping and handling charges to buy a mop. I recently got Comcast DVR and have learned how long commercials are for certain programs. In most cases you can fast forward FIVE minutes through the ads. I'm not in the market to buy a new car, or a specific beer, don't need a laptop or to join the military, Ruby Tuesday claims they have a better burger, It's a hamburger!. I was called once for my media opinion, but from Latin Nielsen and the person hung up when they found out I was not Mexican. So, why do we need commercials? Phil
