More and more hotels are becoming pet friendly and treating pets as members of the family. Just as it should be. It can be very traumatic for a pet that is not used to being in a kennel and you can’t help thinking if they are ok. This is especially true if you are traveling during the holidays.

New York is a great pet friendly place. There are many dog parks in all neighborhoods and quite a few pet friendly hotels. New York has very strict dog laws. The animal must be on a leash at all time, unless you are in a dog park that specifically allows them to be off. And you must pick up after your pet. There are hefty fines if you do not.

Some is the hotels do not have an extra charge for pets, some of them do. Some of then require proof of vaccination along with other restrictions. Be sure to ask questions when you call for reservations. Get all the information about charges, what they give you for the pet, does the pet have to be caged during room cleaning, is the pet allowed in all the areas of the hotel, do they offer pet walking and or pet sitting services, are there any pet friendly restaurants in the area, and anything else you can think of. They will be more than happy to answer your questions.

If you decide to bring your pet, I hope it is a positive experience for both of you and you enjoy your pet friendly visit to The Big Apple.
