"I want to hear him espouse some conservative values and principles," Mary Matalin speaking of Senator John McCain. Are you kidding me, my favorite Republican spokeswoman? Have you lost your conservative mind?
John McCain, unlike Mitt Romney, has been 100% pro-life since his first moments in public office way back into 1982. He has 7 of his own children - two of whom are adopted.
John McCain respects the Image and Likeness of God within each human being - as a POW he doesn't condone torture.
John McCain is pro-immigrant without being soft on border control. He realizes, like amnesty-granting Ronald Reagan, that Mexican Americans (and those who want to be Mexican Americans) are a vital core piece of the American economy, culture, and institution.
John McCain is committed to seeing a victory in Iraq by continuing the training of Iraqi security forces until the country can secure its own safety and freedom.
John McCain has consistently protected the Second Ammendment.
John McCain does not favor government spending that cannot be backed up right now, including past tax cuts that will leave our government with a greater deficit.
John McCain is a man of sincere faith, who supports the sincere faith of others. He is quoted as saying that he believes there is a higher purpose for his life, but that "that doesn't mean God wants me to be president." His ego has been left behind. He does not claim the direct line to heaven.
John McCain is a war hero who willingly sacrificed his life for his country as young man during the Vietnam War. He never once denied his nation, offered secrets that would injure our attempts in the Vietnam War, and he relied on his deep faith in God to sustain him. As a Catholic, this speaks deeply to me. I can stand back, look at his life and say, "Here is a man who was spared for a purpose. Here is a man who has stood by his principles even when it has cost him votes and support from his own party. Here is a man who is his own man - a man like Ronald Reagan."
