OLD SAYBROOK - Ever wonder what it would be like to climb Mount Everest?

Pultzer Prize winning photojournalist Michael Kodas will soon be giving a story-presentation about his adventurous and dangerous trek up Mount Everest.

Eight climbers died atop the Mount Everest in a single storm in 1996 and the storm made headlines prompting the creation of Jon Krakauer's bestseller "Into
Thin Air."

Rather than scaring people away, several thrill seekers paid up to $65,000 each to be there attracting the attention of many throughout the world hoping to get a piece of the action.

In his own words and through photos, Kodas will explain the journey he took while on assignment for Hartford Courant.

Kodas, his wife, and climbing partners found themselves in camps filled with theft, fraud, and violence.

They quickly discovered they were not only at the mercy of the mountain but also of their own teammates.

Kodas will give his presentation, be available for questions, and autograph copies of his recently published book "High Crimes: The Fate of Everest in an Age of Greed".

Attendees can encouraged to call ahead to reserve a copy of his hardcover book for $24.95.

The hour-long event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Old Saybrook Middle School at 60 Sheffield Street in Old Saybrook.

There will be a $5 ticket charge with proceeds being donated to the Ragged Mountain Foundation.

To reserve a seat and for more information, contact 860-388-6585.

Tickets and books are available at North Cove Outfitters located at 75 Main Street in Old Saybrook.
