Ex-Idol Katharine McPhee Ties the Knot
Katharine McPhee found the man she's been waiting for and married him this past weekend. McPhee and Nick Cokas tied the knot. The two have been dating since they met over a year ago on the set of a theater production. Nick was also the one of the few who encouraged her to audition for the
hit TV reality show American Idol, where she finished as the runner-up in 2006.
McPhee's album failed to sell as well as hoped, and her single "Over It" took radio by storm but failed to enter the Billboard's Top 20 in any chart. Just recently, RCA had decided to drop the ex-Idol from the label as she didn't sell well as planned. Her second single was never promoted properly and wasn't pushed to radio, causing it to not chart anywhere on Billboard but the Hot Digital Songs. It only peaked at No. 126, however.
As she's found love, other Idols haven't had such success. Grammy winner, and first winner of the TV show, Kelly Clarkson, fell for ex-Evanescence guitarist David Hodges. He helped produce her smash hit "Because of You" and also has credit for her fan favorite "Addicted." Clarkson however found out Hodges was going behind her back with his ex before marrying her a few months later. Found on her latest record My December, the Top Ten hit "Never Again" describes their relationship that had fallen apart. Hodges had been quoted on his newly formed band Trading Yesterday's fan forum to have said "it sucks when your ex is on every radio channel and on every TV station." Thus where Clarkson came up with the lyrics "Does it hurt to know I'll never be there, bet it sucks to see my face everywhere."
During her Breakaway Tour in 2005, she fell for opening act Graham Colton. The two hit it off well as he remained her opening act for her second tour of the year, the Hazel Eyes Tour. However, after grueling work schedules, the pair split due to never having time for each other. Much of Graham's latest record, Here Right Now, was written about Kelly and their relationship minus a few songs.
