How to Hang Curtains in a Cement Ceiling
Embed:
Learning how to hang curtains when you have a cement ceiling is so much easier than you probably expect it to be. I currently live in a condo with cement ceilings and just hung curtains. I have also lived in a loft with cement walls, brick walls and cement ceilings and was easily able to learn how to hang curtains in cement easily.
To Hang Curtains on Cement Wall You Will Need:
Hammer Drill
Cement Wall Anchors
Screws
Curtain Hardware
To get started you need to hold your curtain hardware up to the ceiling and mark the holes where they need to be screwed into the cement.
Now, a hammer drill is your best bet. These come in many varieties. They do require an air compressor, but you do have another option. You can simply use a power drill with a ceramic drill bit. This will work on newer cement.
Tip: If you live in a lift, then you will need a power drill that does use an air compressor, as this will give you a little more power for drilling into really old and hard cement.
Now, simply drill straight into the holes you marked on the wall. Do not move the bit back and forth. Go straight in, drill the hole, and remove the bit. This will give a clean hole.
Now, look at what size (width) drill bit you used. You want to buy cement wall anchors that fit this size hole look on the package of cement wall anchors. They will say which size hole they will fit.
Place one anchor in each hole in the cement ceiling. Tap into place with a hammer or rubber mallet gently. This should be a tight fit.
Now, hold your hardware up in place, slip the screws in, and start screwing into place.
Tip: If you drill your hole and it is slightly too small to slide the wall anchor into to hang your curtains on the cement ceiling, then you can scrape a little cement away from inside the hole using the same drill bit. You can also go up a size with the drill bit if the hole is absolutely really small.
Using a cement drill bit or hammer drill in a cement ceilgin to hang curtains is rather loud. If you live in a condo building, then you may want to drill the holes during the day hours when noise or work on yoru condo is allowed.
Always wear goggles or protective eye gear when drilling into cement.
