Suffering from a heart attack is stressful and scary. Changing your entire diet afterward can be scary as well. Questions swirl through the mind of a heart attack survivor. "What do I do different? What comes next? What foods can I eat? Where do I find these foods, and how do I prepare them?" It doesn't have to be as hard as it seems; heart health doesn't have to be scary. We know that diet is extremely important when recovering from a heart attack. Most medical professionals will tell you that the majority of heart attacks are caused by high cholesterol and choice of diet. According to the Journal of the American Heart Association, The Lyon Diet Heart Study found that a Mediterranean Diet has shown to reduce the risk of a second heart attack by 50 to 70 percent.
The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook by Nancy Harmon Jenkins is full of great recipes and information that will guide you to a healthier way of eating. Using Humus for a spread in your sandwiches is a healthy and amazingly delicious alternative to mayonnaise.

Oz M.D. are fabulous books that will teach you everything you need to know about getting healthy without feeling tortured or confused in the process. In plain and simple English, you learn what to eat and what not to. There are even healthy recipes in the back and a shopping list.
Smoothies are another great meal or snack that gives you a healthy balance of vitamins and nutrients. Here are just a few great smoothie ideas that are quick and easy to make, you can add a tablespoon or two of whey protein and flaxseed or psyllium husks for a heart healthy punch of fiber and protein. Peanut butter Banana
(One large banana, 2 tbsp peanut butter,
1-cup ice water)
