I normally hesitate to write about personal matters, or political interests because I honestly feel like everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That being said, as I went to vote today, I did a few eye rolls and deep breathing exercises and came to the conclusion that this is why the majority of the population just "doesn't bother."

In the midst of juggling work and errands I ran to my polling location to find that it was nonexistent. Frustrated I thought perhaps it had switched back to where it had been before... I got there to see a post it , not a sign, a post it note, saying there was no voting there today. What? My patience was waning as I went home and jumped on line to find my polling location. I went to the website for Los Angeles county and entered my info and there was a glitch with the system - it said my street was nonexistent. I tried again. No go!

I dug through all my old mail I'd deemed "important" and found my sample ballet, but no listing of a change of polling location. Are you kidding me?

Now, I was really getting frustrated. I actually left the house and began walking up and down the streets where I knew I had seen flags on voting day before. I tracked down a school with a news crew and approached. I asked the people inside if they could please help me find my voting local. Now, a little back story. There are actually 2 polling locations within 100 feet of my house, but for some reason, I'd been rezoned to one two miles away several years ago. Why? Who knows?! Since it didn't exist today, the gentlemen showed me a map and asked me for my cross streets. I was in the right place! Finally! He explained that they had rezoned about five times over the past few years.

As I walked up, an elderly gentleman was in front of me. The woman asked whether he was Republican or Democrat. His reply was Republican to which she yelled to the end of the table 'He's a Republican" and actually rolled her eyes as he passed. As I walked up she was shaking her head and shrugged her shoulders at me. A bit shocked, I approached. I'm non Partisan. I want the flexibility to vote for whomever I deem fit...I don't like to be tied down to party lines. I agree with issues on either side.

Great topic! We are designated to vote at the school farthest away from us even though there are two that much closer to my house.

I went to the polls a couple years ago and was told I couldn't vote because I was dead. Truth! Talk about being shocked. The poll worker confused me with a cousin who had recently died. I'll never forget that one. -Very good read!

Sorry you had a bad voting experience and glad the writers' strike seems to be over (as you reported). :)

lol, wasn't that a ridiculous journey. Sorry you had to go through that, and truth be told whoever that lady was she should have been removed for trying to influence votes which I believe there is some sort of policy for if I'm not mistaken. Pretty scary to think even the lines are full of propaganda or outlandish gestures and remarks. We don't have our vote until April I think as we are one of the last states to vote along with Texas. Thanks for showing this side of you, very cool :)

I can't believe that! Wow! I hope it isn't the norm at all voting precincts . . .I have never had an issue when I've gone to vote (which is every time I get the chance!).

This is an interesting article. There are many other reasons why people do not vote. Some are not legally entitled to such as Permanent Residents, while others choose not to vote for religious reasons. Sophie

Voting is not always such a pleasant experience. However, it is a necessary experience. I'm glad you voted.

I dont vote in public simply because I live in a small town and everyone knows me because of my profession-- I dont want to be humilated by some because of my party affliation--I do the absentee ballot route and Im not wearing no sticker, im not endorsing anyone with a sign on my lawn, and I certainly aint writing no checks-- But I will crash local poltiians winners receptions--just for the cocktails--great article

Thanks for sharing your experience! It amazes me how rude some people can be. If you can't accept the opinions and party choices of others, you shouldn't be in this type of job situation, I think.

That's just crazy, Molly. I wouldn't blame a person for not voting after that experience!
