Have you looked around your house lately? What is all that stuff you have and why are you gathering stuff? You probably know what I'm talking about, we had stuff that we bought big containers to pack stuff in so we could put more new stuff in the place where all that stuff used to be. And what do we do with those containers? We take a corner or a wall in the garage and we start stacking and storing all that stuff because we don't want to get rid of it, we may want that someday. The funny thing is underneath the most recent containers full of stuff are containers of stuff that are probably 10 years old, and stuff hasn't even been looked at for least five years.

We've lost all our stuff three times now. Once after suffering a back injury and being denied disability, we couldn't keep all our stuff and didn't have room to take all our stuff with us. Another time was because we lived in a moldy house and didn't know it until it made us all sick. 90% of our stuff was contaminated, so we had to leave it behind. The third time was because the mold incident amplified our allergies and gave us allergies we never had before, so we had to move to a different part of the country to get away from all the allergens and pollens that were in the air. Our van wasn't big enough to take all our stuff with this, so we left our stuff behind.

We learned a lot through our experience with all this stuff, one thing we learned is all this stuff is a burden. If you move you have to pack all that stuff up and take it with you, or you have to have a yard sale to try to get rid of it which is a funny thought because you're trying to sell somebody else the stuff that you don't want, and at the end of the day when you realize nobody else wanted that stuff either, and now you have to throw it away. The problem is you can't put all that stuff out on the curb because the trash man doesn't want all that stuff. That's pretty sad your stuff is so valuable you held onto it for 10 years and you can even give it to the garbage man. So what you have to do? You have to go get a truck and load all your stuff then it and then pay a dump site to take your stuff.

I had to laugh when I read this because we are really bad about stuff. Every year two or 3 times we spend a whole day lugging crap off our back patio and taking it to the dump. I have stuff crammed into every nook and cranny of my house and it's unbelievable that we still keep accumulating more stuff. great article!

Dude, this is such a cool article. I am one of the biggest victims of this crime on myself. I just can't stop the collecting! Thanks!

Very good article. I am sure you know this bible quote much better than I, so forgive me butchering it but ... where ever your treasure is so will be your heart. If your treasure is stolen so your heart will too. We shouldn't treasure stuff because it can be taken away from us. It shouldn't mean so much to us! I did engrave my hubby's wedding ring to say "my treasure, my love" because he is my treasure and my heart.

I too, have had to leave my stuff behind. I moved from NC to CO with only what my car could hold, and then back again the same way. Gathering new stuff was hard, but I did it. Now we have my mother in law's stuff since she passed away, and the house is constantly cluttered. There are many things I have but never look at, for sentimental reasons, and if it's not sentimental it goes in the garbage. It's amazing that I have all this stuff and produce as much garbage as I do, and donate as much stuff as I do.... I really enjoyed this article.

I'm ashamed to say it but I like my stuff! Good article with some interesting thoughts. I wishing you good health and good luck for the future, with or without excess baggage.
