When it comes to helping your child appreciate the performing arts, it definitely will take a lot of effort on the parent’s part. There are many schools that are devoted to the arts, but unfortunately this is a luxury that not all states have. If this is the case where you live, then this article is written especially for you. It is important that you expose your child to the arts at an early age. The younger your child is when they start hearing music the more likely it will be that they will appreciate it as they grow older. Following are several things that you can do to encourage this within your child.
1. Take them to see a musical at least once a year. Most musicals are played in the city area and for some it can be expensive to get there. Others have the privilege of living close to many places where musicals are performed year round. Even if it is a small production put on in a school gym you should take the time to go with your child. Not only would it be a great opportunity to show them how beautiful music is, but it is also a great way to spend time together as a family.
2. Enroll them in some classes. It is always a plus when your child is enrolled in some type of musical program. Whether it is playing an instrument, or dancing either of these programs would be a benefit for your child.
3. Including some type of music into your daily routine. Many families choose to turn on the radio or play some classical music tapes in the morning with breakfast instead of allowing them to watch television.
4. Put on your own play in the house. Once a week you could have your child put on a play for the rest of the family. You could participate with them or allow other siblings to get involved in the fun.
5. Show them how much fun the performing arts can be. If you show them that music and dance and acting can be fun, they will learn to enjoy it with you. It will also broaden their minds to much more.
