Last year I went to Spain with my parents but, because they live in the USA and I live in Thailand, we met in England en route to Spain. We spent a night in London, both on our way to Spain and on our way back, and both times we stayed at a bed and breakfast. Hotels in England are just too expensive and anything close to Gatwick Airport was way out of our price range, so a bed and breakfast was a good solution. My parents' favorite bed and breakfast is The Lawn Guest House in Horley. It's family-run and only five minutes from Gatwick Airport, so this is where we stayed. Our flights arrived in at Gatwick only 30 minutes apart. After we'd greeted each other, we went to find a coffee shop as Adrian, the co-owner of The Lawn, couldn't pick us up until after 9am because he was dealing with the breakfast rush at the guest house. This was no problem at all as it gave us a little time to relax and chat. At 9am sharp, he arrived at the airport, bundled our bags into the car and off we went to the bed and breakfast. The pick up was included in the price of the room, which I thought was great.
When we arrived at The Lawns, we were greeted immediately by Carole, Adrian's wife. She had just finished with the breakfast rush and was busy in the kitchen, but she took time out to welcome us and to say hello again to my parents, who were, by this time, frequent guests. Then Adrian showed us up to our rooms. My parents had requested rooms near each other, so we were shown to the attic rooms. Only two rooms are up here, one for my parents and one for me, which meant we also had privacy.
The rooms were lovely. Mum and Dad had a double bed, and an ensuite bathroom with shower, thick towels, complimentary shampoo and conditioner, soap and shower caps. I had a room that had two single beds, and an ensuite bathroom with the same complimentary items. Both rooms had a hot water kettle, and plenty of sachets of coffee, tea, creamer, hot chocolate, and little packets of cookies. Very nice.
The rooms also had cable TV, hairdryers and little heaters as England can get quite chilly at night.
