Cheap decorating tips

When you are young it is nice when you finally have your own place. But it can be expensive to furnish your own apartment. My article will tell how to get it done without having to move into a furnished apartment.

First, if you are lucky and you find your decent couch on the street you will need to buy some funky pillows but this can be expensive. Buy some nice funky pillows cases with nice sleep pillows to use instead of expensive throw pillows. Also, shop during August for sales on throw pillows, which are considered dorm room accessories or buy some summer pillow at the end of the year when stores bring in fall and winter darker colored pillows. Always shop the opposite season for the best sales. Anything you can buy off the season. Think of the cool summer dishes you can show for next year barbecue.

Start a unique collection and hung it on the wall. How about unique old pan tins, old fashioned nutcrackers, or some old fashioned dishes that you can get a city’s many garage sales and thrift stores. Check out www.allnyc.com for thrift locations to look for funky dishes, painting and other household items.

If you love to read how about putting your favorite book quotes or poems in a frame. Decorate your apartment with your art or photographs instead of expensive art.

Also, if you want to get painting from artists that are just getting starting out visit Hoboken, NJ art festival that is held twice a year.

At the end of the January look at reduced 2007 art calendars for great art pictures.

Use the barter system on www.craigslist.org to barter for art for your apartment. If you can teach knitting then maybe can teach how to paint or sew.

For your table coasters use pretty plastic patterned plastic placemats for coasters. You just cut the coaters in circular or square patterns. Also, to display on your table a coffee table book with your favorite postcards or magazine ads displayed in a photo book. .

How about decorating your music area with old album covers that would take up less space then big posters.

Takeaways
  • Wallpaper is great to hung for decorations in frames
  • Old pans are interesting to use as decorations
  • Magazine ads are great to display in a book
