Death of a Snake God

I always knew an animal was going to kill Steve Irwin. But I thought he would be eaten by a crocodile or a stung by a deadly venomous snake. That was foolish of me.

Truly, he was a God of Reptiles.

No serpent, no scaly creature was ever going to kill Steve Irwin; he was their greatest champion. They were his sacred animals. You had only to see him run after a black mamba or rid an African village of vipers to realize that he was St. Patrick, Mercury and every ancient snake god put together.

But alas, he was not a Sea God.

In the end, it was a stingray that killed him, apparently instantly, lashing out with its tail and sending a barb through his heart like a bullet.

He was killed during a diving expedition in the Great Barrier Reef, apparently taken by surprise by the stingray, which is considered a dangerous, but not deadly animal.

Irwin was a great naturalist and environmentalist. His efforts at protecting animals met with great success, and he became an Australian icon. He will be missed, and not just by the crocodiles.

The bestthing about Steve was he was passionate plus positive.
At least he died doing somthing he loved. RIP, Steve Irwin.
Alas, only the good die young. Steve was a world-class wildlife protector and will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his American-born wife Terri and their two small children. Steve died doing what he loved; not many of us have that privilege. He was taken from us way too soon, but he died with swift dignity.
To the Family of "Steve Irwin" Our condolences.... Steve Irwin, was acharacter apart from all the other wildlife presenters. The matter of fact that he was a friend of the Wildlife of the world, and more often showed his passion on screen. He has influenced more children in this cruel world, and openend a room in their heart for the Wildlife and preservation. Glod Bless You. No other Politician in the World have done anything as good as Steve Irwin did. So... Kindly on behalf all the children of the world Bless Steve Irwin. with sorrow.. Mr K. Attalia (Kenya)

Stunning news.. so sad. I watched his shows often and i think he was making a great difference in the world.
Steve Irwin's tragic death is a loss to the entire world. Through his work with animals, he has informed, entertained and endeared himself to thousands of people. During his all to brief life, he made global work of animal conservation and an engendered in people an appreciation for the immense diversity of life. I am NOT a fan of reptiles, however his energetic and authentic personality taught me a great deal about these creatures. I stand in awe of his ability to understand and compassionately reach out to animals as well as human beings. Steve Irwin was one of those rare people who used their gift and lives to make a true difference. He left his footprint. He may have been Australia's icon, but the world feels his loss.
