Imagine a nice night in the spring. The weather is starting to warm up, but there's a slight breeze that cools you down. Maybe you just had a huge exam, had a hard day at work, or maybe the weekend just started. You want a chance to sit down and relax. Let's go to a coffee shop. There's always a relaxing atmosphere at coffee shops. Maybe a local artist will be playing while we talk about the week and sip our drinks. It is very calming. I wish we could bottle this atmosphere and save it for later, don't you? Well, we can't bottle this atmosphere or experience, but someone has come very close. That artist is Tyler Burkum. If you enjoy listening to local artists passionately strum their acoustic guitars pouring out their hearts in song, then you need to give Tyler Burkum a try.
On his independent album, Demo, Burkum sings out his thoughts in a humble way that makes you feel like he is one of your best friends sharing a personal moment. The gentle strums of his guitar back the feeling even more.
Even more impressive is Burkum's ability at song writing. I admire a good turn of phrase, and Burkum's lyrics fill the bill. His opening song "Hurricane" says, "from a seed to a tree, from a boy to man, you're a part of me, can't you understand?" And lyrics such as these continue throughout the collection of love songs.
Burkum's honesty in his lyrics, the soft acoustic sound, and his great personality in his overall style gives the impression that you're listening to one of the great classics such as Bob Dylan or the Beatles.
Burkum started his professional music career as the lead guitarist for Audio Adrenaline. However, the styles of the two groups are completely different. Whether or not you are a fan of Audio Adrenaline, don't mistake the two. Burkum stands out as a strong individual with much to offer to his listeners.
I felt I should give Tyler Burkum a promotion, because I admire his style and his genuine personality. Demo can only be purchased at his personal website or on iTunes. However, you can hear some of his music on his mySpace.
