Barack Obama, one of the leading Democratic candidates for the 2008 US Presidency, promises a new beginning to the American people. His platform rests upon tremendous change in the United States and upon the establishment of a new path for the American government. Here is Obama's platform
for the 2008 election on the most central issues in the United States today, according to the Boston Herald.

Education
1. He opposes vouchers being used at private schools because he believes they undermine public schools.
2. Calls for higher pay for teachers and pay based on merit as well.

Healthcare
Fully supports a universal health care plan and has stated that we require a plan with "everybody in, nobody out. A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan."

Taxes
1. Proposed an $80 million dollar tax cut for the poor and middle class
2. Spoke out against estate tax cuts

Budget Deficit
1. Eliminate tax credits that are no longer useful
2. Clost corporate tax loophole
3. Restore the PAYGO policy, which does not allow federal spending without a plan to make up for lost revenue.

Foreign Policy
1. Hopes to bring a "responsible" end to the war in Iraq as soon as possible.
2. Rebuild and construct alliances worldwide in order to battle such problems as global warming
3. Invest in "humanity" by providing foreign aid.
4. Called for an expansion on the United States Armed Forces

Immigration
1. Implement a guest worker program, providing a path towards citizenship for all undocumented workers.
2. Supports granting drivers licenses to illegal immigrants
3. Voted for the Secure Fence Act, which would allow 700 miles of fence to be built along the United States-Mexico border.

Abortion

I find it hard to choose which candidate I will vote for. MacCain has more political experience, but he sounds like a boy trying to be a man and not quite coming across as the older, more experienced person when he is up on the podium. I do not like his tax proposals, I don't care much for his ideas on our military, and I refuse to ago back to the stoneage where a woman has no rights to her own body. However, Obama comes across too whishy-washy. He only acknowledges his black half. The man is bi-racial, why doesn't he refer to himself as that (not white, and not black)? Just like Whoopi Goldberg said on her Bravo show, The Word According to Whoopi, "I am an American." We are not White Americans, African American, Japanese American, etc. We are all JUST Americans...for this reason and only this reason, I hesitate voting for Mr. Obama

Is this what the world has come to, the only reasons people aren't voting for Obama arent even good reasons..because you can't bare arms..wowwie its to protect us all, i know plenty of kids in the neighborhood where i came from who have experienced some type or injury or witnessed one due to stray bullets by legal gun holders. Barack Obama has very good points and everyone isn't going to get what they want but John McCain can insure that the rich people get what they want..their tax cuts are way better than my moms and i live in a middle class family which is 95% of America..do you really think Paris Hilton and her family need tax cuts? I think not..they have constant income coming in and my parents retire next year so what am I going to do when I want to go to college 2 years from now. People that are so shallow minded are exactly why China and Japan have surpassed us, and I want to be a historical thinker and get us back up to speed. Sex education should be taught and if i want to ge

people should be more mature. What happened to respect other people's opinions? You can't just say Obama is better or Mc.Cain or that anyone is stupid or going to ruin America. Because that is not a fact. "Go Obama forget John POOstain POPoo" does this sound mature to you? "I will certainly not be voting for him." Do we want your opinion? i rest my case here, for i have to time to lose.

I believe all the people who have commented here have somewhat valuable points, but at the same time i am eagerly dismissing overzealous fanatical information and opinions which reflect only personal interests and prejudices such as those which assault stricter regulations for gun control, easier access to healthcare for those who have or never have had any. I also notice that alot of prejudice directed at obama is in regards to his color not neccesarily his stance on important issues such as the rising dissatisfaction of the american people poor and wealthy alike. I am not voting for obama because he is black and our people share the burden that has blocked progress in america for its entirety of existence and that is race which is inherintly tied up in class issues. If there is a presidential candidate who wishes to bring to the majority of people in america a better quality of life of education and of relation with our fellows then i say VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!!
