In the midst of winter
The sun bursts through
With an unnatural
Natural power.
Temperature rises
And blooms begin to appear
On the ground
On bushes
And in trees.
They have been fooled
By the false Spring again.

The gloom of dark chill
Is lifted
And even heavy people
Feel lighter.
Moods turn upwards
As do the corners of mouths
On old and young alike.
We have been fooled
Yet again
By the false Spring.

When it passes we remember
That we
And the nature all around us
Have been fooled before.
But it is a deception
We welcome
As a preview glimpse
Into the real Spring
That awaits.

Daffodils. A flower primed to jump up at the first warmth. A wecome responder to false Spring.

Nice poem. Living in Louisiana, we have a lot of "false" all kinds of seasons! The weather can change from day to day. (Yay for comments working!)

Ohio's false springs can be very disheartening . . . we had false spring all last week and today it's -15 with windchill. It feels like nature is playing a dirty trick!

Very nice, David. It seems here in Florida we get "false winters!"

I'll take the false spring; it means real spring is on the way. When my daffodils and crocus start coming up, I am thrilled!

I am often fooled and plant away only to lose them to a frost :-(
