This quaint, recently renovated, small town is home to many year-round festivities. Originally built by Pope Resources, this privately-owned historic town has its background in the logging industry. It currently is National Historic Landmark. There is a multitude of Victorian style homes that have been converted into businesses here. They are all exquisitely maintained and a total pleasure to visit. Port Gamble makes for a wonderful day trip. Things to see include:

What’s really nice about Port Gamble is the fact that there is a huge open field. This field can be converted into a variety of uses. One time it contained carnival rides. Another time it contained vendors, etc. So, Port Gamble is multi-purpose.

One thing I would like to mention about Port Gamble is that there is an old military cemetery located here. It is amazing to take some time and walk amongst the headstones. The dates, inscriptions, and artwork are phenomenal to me. And, there is no charge for this browsing.

In June, the Medieval Faire happens. All participants from vendors to musicians are part of the scene. They wear authentic period-era garb, which makes for a fun atmosphere. The clothing, music, and food are all Medieval time oriented. This is a fun way to get a feel for being around that time period. There is an event admission charge.

Another event of interest happening annually in Port Gamble is the Civil War Re-enactment. There is an event charge for this one, but the entertainment value is tremendous. I felt sorry for the participants this year, though. The weather was in the 90’s. Whoa..

As mentioned, there are other year-round events and festivities happening here. Call the Kitsap Peninsula Visitor and Convention Bureau at 360-297-8200 for more information.

Holiday time is another great reason to visit Port Gamble. The town is decorated with a country-style feel. The buildings, anyways, are reminiscent of a country atmosphere. Add the lights, decorations, and entire town ambience..and this place is just fun during the year-end holiday festivities.
