Both my husband and I wear prescription eyeglasses, and each year when our health insurance company pays for a new pair, we take advantage of this and pick out new frames for our updated prescription. As styles change, so do the shapes of our lenses. This can make finding sunglasses that fit onto the lenses extremely difficult. We shopped at numerous stores before finding sunglasses that would fit the shape of our lenses, and have been completely satisfied with the Solar Shield brand.Description
Solar Shield sunglasses have a spring above the bridge of the nose that allows the sunglasses to expand to fit over our eyeglasses. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and are even available in gray or dark brown tints.
* Polar AB lenses block glare
* Blocks 100% of UVA and UVB rays
* Frame stretches outward to fit over glasses
* Plastic coated clips prevent scratching your glasses
Our Experience
We were able to find these Solar Shield at our local Fred Meyer store, and they retailed for $15.99. When we checked with our optometrist's office about buying custom made sunglasses, we were shocked to learn that they were going to cost us $45 and up! That was out of the question. The Solar Shield brand made so many shapes and sizes that it was easy to find almost the perfect fit for our glasses.
They come in the square, or rounded versions, and have sizes to fit most of today's prescription eyeglasses. The designs are easy to attach to my glasses, and can be done with one hand while wearing my current eyeglasses. This is also a plus! Several years ago I made the mistake of paying $100 to have custom made clip on style sunglasses, and they were very difficult to put on, resulting in my scratching my lenses. That made an already expensive purchase even more costly!
Solar Shield also makes these with other options, such as a mirrored coating, or a variety of colors to match your frames. There are many clip on style sunglasses on the market, but not all of them are polarized. We have found it's worth spending the extra money to have this benefit. Polarization allows you see through harsher light, reduces eye strain, and enhances depth perception.
